A longing to re-live a wonderful, magical time of my growing up prompted the search for anything remotely connected to Australian or New Zealand Defence Force dependants who lived in Singapore.  Using my computer, an important tool in this mission, a search on the internet proved fruitless but for a few Brit Brat web sites who were welcoming and supportive of each other as they shared their precious ‘Far East’ stories. There had to be something out there for brats like me who wanted to do the same, I am Australian and attended the New Zealand Services School, Woodlands from 1975 to 1977.

In a ‘Build it and they will Come” moment...Australian and New Zealand Military Brats of Singapore was born in June of 2001 in the form of a Yahoo Group, the following year we moved to MSN Groups and then in 2009 we have settled for our final ‘home’ here.

The space is now filled and when a curious Brat seeks us out through their own longing, we can be found.

Dreams have been exceeded as we piece together this amazing Australian and New Zealand Brat Story together. Members share in their knowledge, memories and adventures with enthusiasm and endearment of a unique time and place long gone but not forgotten.

A bond has been formed measured on the comfort of knowing we are alone with our memories no longer.

As Military Brats, we are used to adapting to new places and situations moving around from state to state, island to island, with our Fathers postings. Singapore was especially challenging for it was a whole new country and very different from anything we'd ever known.

Singapore for every Brat was exotic, exciting and educational.  We were young primary and high school students, for us it was an impressionable time of our lives which made it all that more special.

We spent 2 wonderful years surrounded by such diverse cultures...in times before multi-culturalism became a popular word.

This valuable life lesson has carried us through to our mature years.

It is hoped that this renewed bond will last as it was always meant to, along with Reunions across Australia and New Zealand, to help bring together Australian and New Zealand Brats now scattered across each corner of their countries, and indeed the world.

Maintaining the website has been a solo mission, one that i am very happy and Proud to fullfill.
While I alone manage the technical side of the site, with additions and updates, there is a wonderful group of loyal brats who must be acknowledged for their ongoing support and encouragement which has made my mission so much easier and so much more enjoyable.

My grateful Thanks to all who have stayed with us through the years and shared your stories, to those who have contributed photos from their family albums and to our hard working Reunion Organizers, you help to make it all come together.

If this is your first visit to our site, a Warm Brat Welcome to you. I hope you enjoy a trip back in time while looking through the photos and reading others memories, i know you will find our ANZMBOS community friendly, supportive and understanding.

Contributions of photographs, memorabilia or any information are most welcomed.
If you have thoughts of organizing a reunion in your area, please feel free to contact me so that we can work together on promoting it on the site.
